Injures with different locations lead to changes in the immune system, such as chemotaxis activation and migration of granulocytes, monocytes, T and B lymphocytes into the zone of traumatic inflammation; systemic release of anti-inflammatory cytokines, the acute-phase response, neuroendocrine reactions, early immunosuppression, and switching over from Thl- to Th2-type of the cytokine pattern [1,2]. Despite a limited damage in the case of penetrating eye wounds, they lead to pronounced changes in theimmune system. The reason is that, under clinical and experimental conditions, the stress response caused by damage to the information-providing organ plays an important role [3,4]. The new generation of immunomodulators produced in Russia, namely, myelopeptides that display high immunomodulating and stress-limiting activities, are promising agents capable of supporting the immune system in the case of penetrating eye wounds [5]. In this study, myelopeptides MP-1 and MP-3 were administered to rats withpenetrating eye wounds to prevent both stress- and injury-induced and changes in the immune response.
