Arc sprayed coatings are widely used in industry applications due to their high output and good quality. Fe-based wire is an attractive feedstock as it is much cheaper than Co- and Ni-based spraying materials. In this study, the influence of yttrium content in a FeCrBAl core wire on the coating heat- and wear resistance was examined. The coatings were produced by Active Arc Spraying. The process allows improving the coating quality by using propaneair combustion products as a carrier gas. The coating was characterized in terms of its surface morphology, microstructure, and phase composition by SEM and XRD analysis, and microhardness. The coating was evaluated by two-body abrasive wear test, and tests of heat resistance at 700℃ in air, and under salt deposit at 550℃. The tests showed high temperature oxidation resistance when compared to typical wrought steels for boilers and high abrasive wear resistance compared to alternatives. The corrosion products thickness on the surface of the coating is quite low and of the same magnitude of the other metal coatings deposited with thermal spray technologies and studied in the same conditions.
