The Government's Alcohol Strategy: A view from the both ends of the world

Overall the Government's Alcohol Strategy is a landmark piece of work and the single biggest policy change in the alcohol landscape for a considerable time. The key initiative within the strategy is the commitment to introduce a minimum price for alcohol. Evidence has long shown the biggest drivers of alcohol consumption are price and availability and therefore policies that aim to address these are likely to result in a decrease in alcohol-related harms across the population (Babor et al, 2010; Stockwell, Auld, Zhao, & Martin, 2012).
