EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE OPTS FOR CODEX/ARRIRAW WORKFLOW

Director Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, which takes place in the aftermath of the events of September 11,2001, was shot by Chris Menges, ASC, BSC, using ARRI ALEXA cameras, whose uncompressed ARRIRAW data was recorded to solid-state Codex recorders.Using the Codex data packs gave the production a jump-start on preparing dailies in that they did not wait until the end of the day to send all the media to the lab at once. When full, the Codexunit was removed from the ALEXA and a technician reconciled the metadata with the camera reports and recorded backup copies to an on-set RAID; the data pack was then immediately sent to Deluxe for dailies and deliverables processing. An empty data pack was then loaded into the camera to begin the process again.
