Luminescence of Er3+ Ions in Melts Based on Iodide Salts

摘要

Iodide salts are well known by virtue of their broad infrared (IR) transmission region. In the case of their doping with rare-earth elements, these salts potentially can provide a low level of nonradiative multiphoton relaxation when they are used as active media of lasers in the moderate IR region. The employment of solid-state haloid media is hampered by the hygroscopicity of the majority of haloid salts and the technological complexity of synthesizing high-quality crystals, glasses, and other laser components, as well as by the small iso-mbrphic capacity of rare-earth elements in the majority of solid matrices [1 ]. The application of inorganic non-oxide melts as optical laser media has virtually not yet been analyzed. To the best of our knowledge, in only one study [2] was the luminescence of Nd3+ ions in the liquid of the PBr3-AlBr3-SbBr3 composition investigated.
