Variational principle for periodic orbits of invertible dynamical equations

We state a variational principle first for the period ic orbits of the problem of n gravitating bodies and then for general invertible systems. Recall that the mini- mum action principle was first established by Hamil- ton for attractive or repulsive systems of particles.
