Acute fatty liver of pregnancy treated with plasma exchange

We describe a patient who experienced a complete recovery from an especially severe case of AFLP, complicated by coagulopathy with bleeding, DIC, sepsis, encephalopathy, and possible pancreatitis. Plasma exchange may have altered the course of her AFLP, but further research is needed to establish optimum therapy in severe cases and to establish whether plasma exchange therapy is truly beneficial.
