The Shape of What Shapes Us

We've had an interesting change of perspective, in the Savino household. Out of the blue, our main bread winner (and provider of benefits) became an economic statistic: my husband lost his job. Suddenly, we can't take cozy assumptions for granted. It changes the way we look at everything. I put my garden to bed for the season, wondering where we'll be living when the rhubarb and asparagus return. When I bring home another kiln carcass to rewire, I wonder how it might fit into a moving van. Whether it's my house or studio, my time, money or possessions, it's clearly time to sort priorities and separate the things that matter from the things that really don't. We'll never get this balloon off the ground unless we jettison some inessentials.
