The study reported in this article had the objective of evaluating polymer dispersions comprising a partially crosslinked hydrophilic core and a hard hydrophobic shell as opacifying agents for print quality coated paper. The core particles were initially formed via semi-continuous emulsion polymerisation of BA and MAA incorporating either ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), BIS or trimethylolpropane triacrylate as crosslinker.
