SPECIAL WHEELS FOR SPECIAL FORCES

General Dynamics to supply ground mobility vehicles to U.S. Special Operations Command. Three defense contractors - Oshkosh Defense, Lockheed Martin, and AM General - are currently vying to supply 49,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) for the U.S. Army and another 5500 for the Marine Corps. The JLTV is being developed to replace the aging Humvee. On a smaller scale, General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GDOTS), St. Petersburg, Fla., has been selected to supply 1300 Ground Mobility Vehicles 1.1 to the U.S. Special Operations Command by 2020. Designated the GMV 1.1, it will replace a modified version of the Humvee called the Ground Mobility Vehicle (GMV) that is now used by special operations forces (SOF).
