'X' PERIENCE BRINGS AXLE EVOLUTION FOR ARVINMERITOR - Meritor 14X drive axle designed to provide enhanced efficiency, durability in linehaul truck applications

Much of the talk around the trucking industry in anticipation - and later the implementation - of the EPA's 2010 diesel engine emissions standards has revolved around the fuel economy performance of the two primary emissions reduction technologies. Yet overshadowed by the EGR-SCR wrestling match is the fact that a typical Class 8 truck's fuel mileage is also a function of the other parts of the powertrain, particularly the axles. With that in mind, ArvinMeritor, the Troy, Mich., manufacturer of heavy-duty axles and drivetrain technology for commercial vehicle and off-highway applications, has launched a new tandem drive axle designed to improve performance and efficiency in North American trucking operations. The new Meritor 14X axles are the signature product in ArvinMeritor's MPG Series of components engineered to improve total life-cycle costs in higher productivity or fuel economy-sensitive applications.
