For components that go into mobile equipment, quality, efficiency and performance are only part of the equation. In addition to these attributes, people who design and use engine-powered machinery are increasingly considering machine maintenance issues. One aspect that has been getting increased attention recently is the environmental footprint a particular component might have. A case in point is spin-on filters. Used to clean everything from engine oil to hydraulic fluid, the standard spin-on, canister-style filter is a mainstay for a range of liquid filtration applications. Yet at issue for some is the challenge of what to do with the filters after their useful life is over.
