In nearly every segment of the engine and equipment industry, there is a chasm between what's technically possible and what can be efficiently built and effectively sold. And history is filled with any number of very promising technologies that couldn't quite leap that chasm effectively. A good example is electronic fuel injection for small commercial gasoline engines. While it has been technically possible for years - and in fact has been sold with some moderate success by several engine manufacturers - it's fair to say that mainly because of perceptions of cost and complexity, EFI hasn't really been considered a mainstream engine technology for most small gasoline engine markets.
