VOLVO REVS UP INDIAN ENGINE PRODUCTION

Volvo Group has marked India as its new hub for manufacturing medium-duty engines for trucks and buses. The engines will be produced through its joint venture company Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) - a 50:50 joint venture between Volvo Group and Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Eicher Motors. Through the joint venture, VECV will invest Rs2.88 billion (US$62.6 million) to set up a new engine production facility at the company's factory in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, India. The new facility will manufacture 5.0 and 8.0 L engines for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses for India and other global markets.
