Industry Analysis: Climate Change Mandates Could Foster Clean Coal Development

On June 2 the Obama administration unveiled a proposal to curb the release of carbon at power plants. The proposed regulations would have a broad impact, affecting the increasingly-under-pressure coal industry even further. Power plants account for about a third of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions. Though there are multiple rules geared toward limiting the pollutants the plants release into the environment, according to the EPA, there are currently no federal caps on the carbon dioxide they emit.
