Nucor to begin production at Louisiana DRI plant within weeks

Nucor expects to begin production at its direct-reduced iron (DRI) plant in Louisiana within weeks, The Advocate reported. The US$750 million Convent plant is in the final testing stages ahead of commissioning, Nucor said. The 2.5 million tonne per annum (MTPA) plant will make high-purity pellets from iron ore. Nucor will mix the pellets with scrap metal to make steel. The DRI plant is the first of several phases in a planned US$3.4 billion steel complex.
