The Hydrogen Energy California (HECA) in Kern County, Ca. is set to receive US$408 million from the U.S. Department of Energy, as part of a cost-sharing agreement. SCS Energy plans to build a US$4 billion power plant in the county, which would produce hydrogen fuel to make electricity for the power grid in California, along with some fertilizer. The 300 MW power plant would be powered by petcoke and coal, which will be converted into syngas The project will capture 90 percent of its C02 emissions and then store it in a nearby oil field. Occidenral Petroleum will use the pressurized CO2 to get more oil from its wells.
