Blackout underscores India's need for Dabhol

On the same day that GAIL India announced it would commission its Dabhol LNG terminal by the end of November, India experienced its worst power grid failure in a decade, cutting electricity supplies to nearly 360 million people in seven northern states and shutting transport networks, triggering commuter chaos and halting water supplies. As a result, three of India's five transmission grids collapsed, cutting power to states where some 670 million people live, more than half of the country's population. The July 30 blackout followed a similar one the previous day.
