Kuwait increases LNG imports, urges resource 'cooperation'

Kuwait will begin importing LNG throughout the year rather than just seasonally, Platts reported April 9, citing Kuwait Petroleum Corp. CEO, Farouk al-Zanki. Since 2009, the Middle Eastern country has been importing the fuel during summer to help meet power demands, but from 2013 it will increase imports to year-round to displace oil imports, Zanki said. The country hopes to raise gas production to 4 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) in 2030 from 1.13 bcf/d currendy to double power output.
