India will become a net importer of natural gas in the next two years, with expensive LNG imports meeting an increasing percentage of energy demand in the growing economy, India Times reported. LNG imports constituted 25.5 percent of the total consumption of natural gas in India in 2011-12. This share will rise to 41 percent in the current fiscal and to 50 percent in the next, according to Petroleum Ministry estimates.
