Chevron adds US$15B to estimated cost of Gorgon LNG project

Chevron added US$15 billion to the estimated cost to complete the Gorgon LNG project, Upstream Online reported. The increase brings the total cost to some US$52 billion. The project, now 55 percent complete, has seen cost inflation largely due to labor shortages, logistics challenges and the strength of the Australian dollar. Half of the six other LNG plants being built in Australia have sustained cost increases averaging more than 20 percent, according to News Wire. Chevron owns a 47 percent stake in Gorgon. ExxonMobil and Shell each own 25 percent stakes.
