Thailand seeks LNG imports to supplement country's gas shortfall

Thailand's PTT Exploration & Production is interested in obtaining additional LNG as the company looks to offset a shortfall in supply, Plans reported April 23. PTT will suspend output at its Bongkot field from May 25 through May 31 while Chevron will shut the Erawan field between August 1 and August 8. Together the fields supply 1.1 billion cubic feet of gas a day (650 million cubic feet a year of LNG (Mcf/y)) to the southeast Asian nation, approximately 24 percent of the nation's yearly gas usage. PTT currently imports approximately 1 million tonnes (roughly 82 Mcf/y) of LNG a year.
