The news that Shell and Petrochina are willing to purchase Arrow Energy for a premium of more than 50 percent above the market price has set off a flurry of speculation that other publicly traded coal-bed methane (CBM) producers will receive offers. The stock prices of such companies as Eastern Star Gas, Bow Energy and Santos have risen on the news of the Arrow Energy offer. Arrow Energy reported on March 8 that it received a joint bid from Royal Dutch Shell and PetroChina, which values the company at A$3.3 billion (US$3 billion).
