Z is for Zippy: HP's Z-Series, Nehalem/Xeon-based workstations provide performance and stability a cut above desktop systems

Back in March, HP debuted one of the most significant upgrades to its workstation line in recent history. Replacing the company's XW line, the new Z Series debuted in three flavours (z400, z600 and z800), each targeted to a different segment of the market. While it's sometimes difficult to distinguish a workstation from other computers, what sets these systems apart is Intel's 5500 series Xeon processor. The server-class chip supports multiple CPUs each with two or four cores plus a number of advantages over Intel's more common Core2 line.
