摘要

Swine dysentery (SD) caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae is one of the most important enteric diseases in pig production. Improvement in management and farm hygiene combined with a specific treatment is recommended to control the disease. Over the past years a decrease in antibiotic susceptibility was observed in Brachyspira hyodysenteriae and Brachyspira pilosicoli. Therefore, antibiotic therapy should be based on in vitro susceptibility testing, as was done for tiamulin in this study. A total of 290 faecal samples from 102 farms located throughout Germany were cultured for Brachyspira spp. and isolates were investigated with the microbroth dilution method on their susceptibility to tiamulin. Out of the 158 isolated Brachyspira spp., 46.8% were identified as Brachyspira hyodysenteriae with MIC results ranging from 0.25-8 micro g/ml. A total of 79.2% of B. hyodysenteriae isolates were classified as susceptible to tiamulin, and only 2.1% of the tested B. hyodysenteriae were resistant to tiamulin.
