Allergic contact dermatitis from antihemorrhoidal ointments: concomitant sensitization to both amide and ester local anesthetics.

Local anesthetics are widely used drugs. We present a case of allergic contact dermatitis from cinchocaine (dibucaine) and benzocaine in perianal medicaments. Our case highlights the inadequacy of the use of benzocaine as a single screening agent for topical anesthetic contact allergy and the importance of confirming tolerance to other anesthetics by challenge test.
