Leptospirosis is likely to be silently contributing to reproductive inefficiency on most UK dairy herds, making vaccination a must on any farm with breeding stock.Over the last 30 years, clinical signs of the disease may have evolved making acute illness and abortion storms rare in occurrence, but producers are only kidding themselves if they believe the disease is no longer as issue.Vet Robert Anderson of the Merlin Vet Group, Kelso, believes leptospirosis is endemic on most dairy farms and contributing to herd infertility. Exposure is likely to result in suboptimal conception rates and greater return rates. (See disease box).
