UK dairy farmers will need to adopt a more accurate approach to their herd's protein requirements than simply relying on the established crude protein yardstick.That is the opinion of feed supplier Carrs Billington which has just invested 1.3m in a state-of-the-art plant at Lancaster to produce a unique protected protein for cattle feed.Although protected proteins in general have been available for some time, their flash heat and extruding process is claimed to produce bypass proteins from soya and rape which when blended together give a 'precision' product of known DUP and which is high in both the two limiting amino acids methionine and lysine.
