Breakthrough in rationing to bolster feed efficiency

Taking a radically different look at the way rations are formulated could have a significant impact on dairy cow diets and margins, according to one major feed company. Feed is the biggest single input cost in dairy farming and researchers have consistently looked for ways to increase the efficiency with which it is used by the cow. Now NWF Agriculture is about to launch its latest rationing approach with the Rumen Performance Management (RPM) system. "Most dairy systems in use today work on the principle of gross requirements," explains technical manager Tom Hough.
