Jill is the tenant of a 28ha county council starter farm at Cullompton, Devon. With the help of her husband Roger, she runs 30 Holstein Friesians and a flock of 100 milking sheep. Spring certainly seems to have flown by and it won't be long before it's the longest day. The spring flush of grass has long since past. The next three weeks before the stubble turnips are ready to graze will be the most difficult and we might have to let the cows graze some of the grass left for second cut. This spring has certainly been better than 1993/94. The cows went out and there wasn't any worry about poaching the fields. They've certainly milked well in April and May.
