Back home in 1990 the 'Dairy Rule' was introduced which is a nutrient management plan developed to help control and reduce the phosphorus run off from dairies into the Lake Okeechobee water basin. The farm elected to build two free stall dairies and develop high intensity feeding areas at the other two sites. By doing this they would be able to control more of the manure and reduce phosphorus run off.
