Ciaran Tully, a former RABDF young herd manager of the year, who has emigrated to New Zealand with a view to share milking, reports on one company's attempts to tempt more farmers into improving the nutrition of their cows. Intelact nutrition, a Hamilton, North Island-based company of Dairy Management consultants, claims to have boosted its farmer clients' profits by an average of 10,500 pound. These profits have been largely due to an increase in output brought about by a tailor-made, on-farm integrated management plan. Intelact is own by Tegel Foods, a subsidiary of HJ Heinz, and is one of a growing number of organisations who seek to capitalise on the latest buzzwords in New Zealand - cow nutrition and balanced diets.
