Angela Rhodes finds out why they merit a greater presence in our grass seed mixtures. Despite the advances in plant breeding, the common perception of tetraploid ryegrass varieties is that they lack persistency and their high moisture content makes them hard to ensile But, according to Ian Misselbrook from Advanta Seeds, the newer tetraploid ryegrasses are not only on a par with diploid varieties for sward density and persistency, but also have a lot to offer the dairy farmer in terms of dry matter yield and quality.
