The beginning of the year started with a certain amount of optimism with plenty of talk about public support. This stemmed mostly from new found concern over air miles and the desire to buy locally produced goods. With other sectors seeing an upturn in fortunes recently, surely it can only be a matter of time before dairy farmers see an improvement in prices too? But within a few weeks the public's resolve is tested, and the optimism is stretched as the national headlines proclaim 'Clone farming hasarrived in Britain'. This has the potential to damage our industry on a par with the CM debate. So first thoughts were that of disbelief about how could somebody do this when the outcome from a press discovery was going to be so predictable. But readingthe story it is not as bad as was being implied.
