With an expected boom in the amount of land up for rent with the introduction of farm business tenancies this month, Ian Potter gives a timely warning on one pitfallthat could affect unwary milk producers. It's a complicated start to this month's contribution, I'm afraid, Complicated, but necessary - especially if you are thinking of expanding your farm through a new farm business tenancy (FBT) agreement. I'd just like to air a word of warning to all dairy farmer tenants on the new FBT law, which comes into effect on September 1. Befor e you take on a FBT you must ensure that any quota you take on to the holding is covered in a written agreement and the landlord has given his consent to what will be deemed an intangible advantage before the tenancy commences.
