When I speak to user groups on DB2-related topics, I pre-tent to confide a DB2 secret: there will be performance improvements in the next version of DB2. Since 1986, I've never been wrong. And DB2 universal database (UDB) for z/OS version 8 certainly keeps my prediction streak alive. I'll describe some of the key changes in v.8 that bring about these performance improvements. First, I'll explain why these changes are needed.
