EnCana, Canadian Natural, ConocoPhillips Most Active Operators In Weak Quarter

EnCana Corporation, Canadian Natural Resources Limited and ConocoPhillips Canada Limited were the top three operators of new wells in the first three months of 2009 although all three companies cut back their drilling programs significantly from the prior year. EnCana drilled 861 032 metres as operator during the quarter and was the dominant driller in both Alberta and British Columbia. However, it drilled only 836 wells this year, down 271 from 1,107 wells last year and even further below the 2007 first quarter count of 1,215 wells.
