Raising dairy animals often creates the problem of extra milk and what to do with it. There is only so much cheese and soap a family can use and frankly, only so much ice cream I should consume. There are occasional customers but since we live so farout in the country, the novelty of buying fresh goat milk wears off quickly after a few long trips out to buy it. So, every spring, my kids and I end up raising babies of some kind on goat milk. Of course, the goat kids drink quite a bit themselves but not nearly all of it. In the past, we have raised many calves, puppies, kittens and fawns as well as supplemented dogs nursing puppies. I even treat my hens to a pan of milk, which makes their eggs have really strong shells.
