The process of the co-operative banking sector's restructuring has continued for five years now without producing any tangible results. Hence the problem remains the subject of heated discussions which lead to the presentation of new proposals relating to the future operation of this group of banks. Consecutive draft laws define the tasks and competencies of the individual entities of the structure in question, but work on the final model of the co-operative banking sector in Poland has not been accomplished. In spite of that, the latest draft law on the functioning of co-operative banks, on their association, and changes to some earlier legal acts, which has been approved by the government economic committee (KERM) and the Council of Ministers, and forwarded to the Sejm (lower house of parliament), certainly deserves attention.
