This work presents an architecture for the development of a Management Unit integrated to a CAD/CAPP/CAM system for the Flexible Manufacturing Cell (FMC) of rotational parts. This FMC consists of a CNC Turning Center, an ASEA IRB6 robot, a blank and a finished storage pallet, an AGV robot (Nomad XR4000), an inspection unit (laser micrometer Mitutoyo LM6100) and a Management Unit (MgU) that controls, coordinates and manages the resources and the activities in the cell. A functional model using the modeling IDEFO presents the main requisites and functions that the architecture should offer, showing the relationship between inputs/outputs and the activities. The static model of the architecture is demonstrated by means of object oriented analysis and design (OOAD), specifically using the class diagram of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Such as the last subject, is presented a description of the integration and communication structure of the cell describing the hierarchical levels and the protocol communication used for each workstation.
