Production System Design Specification - A Tool to Improve Competitiveness

This paper studies the presentation of a specification supporting the production development under concurrent development to improve the competitiveness. The work is based on former research on the improvement of production development in early stages of the development process. The authors have investigated the possibility to use a design specification, known as product development tool, and to adapt this to the production development. A new holistic view for the design specification for a concurrent development approach is described. For this purpose the design specification is divided into complementary subgroups regarding product development and production development. The relationship of these subgroups, as well as their benefit and problems for use in a development process, are discussed. The sub-specification concerning production development is defined as production system design specification and a list of issues has been worked out, which support this formulation.
