Time is a scarce commodity, and is increasingly becoming a decisive competitive factor. It is precisely for this reason that efforts are being made at the Demonstration Centre for Virtual Product Creation to relocate the entire product creation process into a virtual reality environment and to optimize it. Strategic technology planning is to be seen as a key process in this context. It is first necessary to clarify the question as to which technologies the product itself is going to involve in the future and with which technologies it is to be manufactured.
