The Cylindrical Steam Drier (CSD) - BMA's novel steam drier.

Steam driers are installed in various beet sugar factories throughout the world for drying beet pulp and can hence be regarded state-of-the-art technology. In terms of size, the current steam drier design has reached its technical limits. But instead of simply scaling up its present steam drier versions, BMA has decided on a completely new approach and has developed a new drier with yet improved performance figures. After thorough analysis of the present steam drier design, and making extensive use of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) computations, BMA has developed a new steam drier concept. Although the evaporation rate is the same, the new BMA drier features a much more slender design. Since the new drier has special vanes installed above the fluidized bed to create a vertical flow pattern, the cost-intensive conical extension typical of the conventional drier version is no longer necessary. Owing to the purely cylindrical contour of its outer shell, the largest steam drier can be built with an outer diameter of 10 m. This drier features an unprecedented 75 t/h water evaporation rate, which corresponds to an average beet slice rate of more than 16 000 t/d.
