The problem of beet soil from beet harvesting to the sugar factory.

Sugar beet soil is detrimental in all phases of beet harvest and subsequent handling (lifting, storage, loading, transport, unloading and washing). It is therefore important to reduce the amount of soil adhering to beets (beet tare). Within this context, topics considered in this article include: physical measures used to reduce the beet tare (physical measures applied in the field and on entering the factory); storage and destination of the soil from beet washing at the factory; and legislation concerning soil leaving the sugar factory.
