Totally integrated automation for the sugar industry: from field instruments up to the management - through going flow of information in the new sugar factory Cumra, Turkey.

摘要

The first greenfield sugar factory built in Europe after the reunification of Germany profits from the development of new technologies in process automation. Processes which have been optimized and fine tuned are being controlled from process control technology which integrates all signals - from simple binary switches to pH value analyses as well as frequency converters - via standard bus connections in order to prepare the process information in the most appropriate way for an easy overview of the entire process for the operators in the central control room. Furthermore, by using an advanced and sugar-specific Management Information System (MIS), the whole process becomes transparent. This paper describes the needs and the approach, as well as the benefits, of modern process control and monitoring technology in sugar factories, exemplified by those installed in the Project Cumra sugar factory in Turkey.
