Farmers motivation in irrigation management and irrigated agriculture

摘要

The case of study of Phitsanulok Irrigation System has revealed that farm households do have a very individual pattern of deciding in irrigated agriculture and in irrigation O&M. Their motives, which are oriented at fulfilling the farm household needs, are in critical aspects different from the motives of the irrigation organization. The continuing process of individualization coming along with an opening economy, technical progress in agriculture and changing rural familiy structure will increase the gap between the actual roles taken by farmers and those expected by the irrigation agency.
