First East Coast US LNG facility in 30 years receives cargo

In mid-May,a state-of-the-art vessel arrived at the new Northeast Gateway Deep-water LNG port,officially beginning the facility's commercial operations.Operating approximately 18 mi east of Boston in Massachusetts Bay,the ship off-loaded its cargo of natural gas into the existing HubLine natural gas pipeline system operated by Spectra Energy.Spectra Energy teamed with a partner to extend a 16-mi,24-in.pipeline lateral from the HubLine to the deepwater port.Regional energy studies have predicted that New England's demand for natural gas will increase considerably in coming years.
