New online methods offer improved safety control in the operation of a floating roof tank.Continuous monitoring of the liquid level and the roof position yields numerous benefits.A-category tanks and some B-category tanks use tank roofing that floats over the liquid.During normal operations,these floating roofs closely follow the movements of the liquid surface.However,perfect contact between the roof and liquid surface can be lost due to unusual events such as:Meteoric water collecting on the roof can concentrate in one o area,rather than spreading over the entire roof.Consequently,the floating roof becomes unbalanced due to momentum of the collected water.
