Sydney Gas hosts open Day in Singleton

Sydney Gas Ltd will host an Open Day as a commitment to encourage residents of the Broke Bulga area to examine the potential for gas exploration in the Hunter Valley of NSW. The Managing Director of Sydney Gas, Dr Philip Moore said "In the near term we are interested to work with the community and local landowners to secure a limited number of sites to drill core holes. Drilling at those locations will provide the exploration data needed to understand the properties of the local coals such as the coal thickness, gas content and gas composition," Coal seam gas is a natural gas consisting mainly of methane, a green energy source which has a positive impact on the environment. Electricity generated from natural gas can result in 50 per cent less greenhouse emissions than conventional electricity generation from coal.
