The effect of irrigation water temperature on soil temperature, growth of plant and fruit yield in cucumber cultivation during the winter season was studied in Korea Republic. Plant height, number of internodes, leaf area, fresh weight and root activities were more active in heat-treated irrigation than those of the non-heated irrigation. Crop growth rate (CGR) increased in heat-treated irrigation of 25+-2degC and 20+-2degC when compared with the non-heated irrigation of 13+-2degC. There was no difference between 25+-2degC and 20+-2degC. The degree of seasonal CGR contribution to several parts of plant growth upon the different temperature of irrigation water was unaffected with irrigation temperature. At the early stage, the growth in leaf, stem and root increased rapidly and reached its maximum point at 15-30 days after planting, whereas fruit size increased rapidly at 60 days after planting. The leaf area index (LAI) and specific leaf area (SLA) were higher in the heat-treated irrigation compared with the non-heated irrigation. There were no statistical differences in the heat-treated irrigation. Net assimilation rate (NAR) and relative growth rate (RGR) were higher in the heat-treated irrigation compared with the non-heated irrigation at 15 days after planting. There were no differences in the heat-treated or non-heated irrigation thereafter. Fruit yield increased 21-23% in the heat-treated irrigation of 25+-2degC and 20+-2degC compared with that of the non-heated irrigation. It showed no significant differencein the heat-treated irrigation.
